Our story

Man eating a bowl of foodOriginally, Oliver and David were flat mates or rather ships passing in the night as they both tirelessly worked silly hours in the wonderful world of food. Oliver was very busy setting up his catering company and David was the head chef of a famous Gastro Pub in Berkshire.

 

David Oliver sprang to life in Oliver’s purpose built catering kitchen, which was frantically busy during the summer and festive periods but calmer as the wedding season cooled off and everyone recovered from the excesses of Christmas. So whilst enjoying these rather calmer months, Oliver started to portion up some of his favourite dishes to sell them in the local farm shops. The meals were an instant hit but it quickly proved rather difficult to keep up with demand as well as at the same time maintaining the high standards of his catering company when the season picked up again. So reluctantly, the meals were put on the back burner.

 

Another season passed but it wasn’t long before David encouraged Oliver to re-group on the idea of these exceptional ready meals. David had always recognised the lack of good quality complete meals and felt frustrated by the mediocre offerings. Travelling back from a weekend catering in France, the boys came up with a plan.

 

By the time they stopped in Kent for a well-earnt pub lunch David Oliver Fine Foods was born.

 

 

The idea

 

The whole idea of David Oliver Fine Foods was to make fresh, honest, hearty restaurant standard meals that people could simply prepare in their own homes at a fraction of the price of going to a restaurant. We use all the same cooking techniques as we would if we were cooking in a restaurant of for a banquet. Our meals are ‘complete meals’: great meat, carbs and vegetables all incorporated with rich, delicious sauce to create a full, wholesome and complete meal.

 

 

Our values

 

Trust – We wanted to create a brand that people could trust; eating our meals in the knowledge that what you are eating is a great product with great ingredients made with the same care and attention that you would apply if it were you cooking it at home.

 

Quality ingredients – As chefs we know that you are only as good as the raw materials that you use. That is why we have searched high and low to find the best producers of guinea fowl, venison, beef and rabbit that we could so we can stand by our meals with confidence and pride.

 

Standards – Cooking at any level is driven by standards. We set out on this journey to set the bar for where we think fresh ready meals should be; We have approached this as chefs and have put in place our high standards that we will always work to; which is why we think David Oliver Fine Foods stands out from the crowd.

 

Restaurant quality in your home – We could see no reason that a fresh ready meal couldn’t be prepared in the same way as the food that you would find in gastro pubs and restaurants, yet we couldn’t find any that matched up. So we put our money where our mouth is and went about putting that right.

 

Consistency – With any food based establishment you are only as good as your last service. We adopt the same philosophy at David Oliver Fine Foods. We strive to make sure that every meal is as good as the first and that is what drives us to succeed.
